Offering over the odds for a house not on the market...

Hi there,
We are looking for houses in an area and have found NOTHING that suits us. We've been impressed by an area which is pretty upmarket but there are just no houses available to buy there!! I've looked ont the net and have serached a few of the roads in the area and hardly any houses have been sold in the past 5 years or so. Now we were just wondering if we were really keen to live there....would it be possible to approach an estate agent and explain our situation and ask them to go find a house for us for a fee or something. We would be prepared to pay over market value obviously but does this ever happen? Approaching homeowners to see if they would be willing to sell their house for over market value? Doesn't sound too common but hey I'm not too comon either
Thanks

why not put a letter through the door saying if/when interested in selling to give u a bell0

I agree. Thats all the EA will do anyway - once they know you are interested in a particular road, all they will do will leaflet drop saying "Mr and Mrs A are looking in your area.........."bs0u0128 wrote:why not put a letter through the door saying if/when interested in selling to give u a bell0 -
the above is a good method if you have some time. if you don't have much time but do have money then you can pay companies to do this and searching for you - like the company run by the location location guy.0

Garat properties I think it's called but they charge a minimum of 5%.
I'll post letters through doors for you for £1,000
Oh and don't offer over the odds, they know what their house is worth, let them name their price.0 -
letters definitely and patience also.
no harm in registering with local agents also"enough is a feast"...old Buddist proverb0 -
our buyer found us by puting a note through the door.

Have had this done to me. It was good to know what they were offering, as I had an idea without having to go back to them. It wasn't enough to make me sell as I wasn't ready to, but I cartainly didn't mind. From your side, if you do it, go in at a reasonable price but leave some space to go up a little if necessary. Offer subject to survey too.0
