Switching to npower

Hi, I moved in to a flat that I'm renting at the start of Septemeber and have been on the standard online tariff with Scottish power.
I did a comparison search and I'm thinking of switching to npower as it says I could save over £160.
My only worry is that I'm pretty sure I will be moving in to a different flat within a year.
would that mean I forfeit getting the money back at the end of the 12 months or could I just carry it on at the new place?

Also am I still classed as a new customer with scottish power, or would I need to pay a cancellation fee?
I'm basically paying month by month so I wouldn't have thought I would have to pay.
:o

Hi shandy 1 - Scot Power will have logged you as a 'New' account when you moved in, and as such would have put you on an expensive 'Standard' tariff ( Quarterly Billing with payment by cheque ?)

To really get the best answers from the Switch sites, you have to enter Annual consumption figures in Kwh, but it's going to be a year before you know these and you plan to move out before then. ( 6 month lease? )

As you rightly say, if you don't stay with n'power for a full year and make 12 consecutive Direct Debits, you won't get the BIG year end credit that you will have been paying for in the cost of your D/Debits.

Your best bet is to get onto Scot Power and ask them what the previous tenants consumption figures were, and arrange to change your tariff based on these figures to the best they have, which will be Online Billing with Direct Debit payments - This is likely to have Exit fee's if you leave before 12 months, but most companies don't charge it if you move to somewhere else. However check this point before signing

    Hi Shandy1

Dogshome has given you some good advice. A lot of suppliers are offering incentives when customers stay with them for at least 12-months. If you are planning to move within this time I would recommend contacting us to see what the best tariff is for you. If you are happy to manage your account online and pay by monthly Direct Debit then we will be able to offer you better rates than what you are currently on. Have a look at the link below for methods of contacting us:

Ok thanks for your help. Yes it is a minimum 6 month lease but i think i'll be here for another 4-6 months.
I currently just put my readings in online when i get an email saying i am due a bill. I then pay by debit card when it calculates what I owe.

I will give them a call then to see what will be best.
Thats the only worrying thing really, I dont mind staying with the same company as long as I can stick with them when I move and not lose out on a bonus or pay a fee for changing address
