attractions around Richmond London

visiting friends, with our 15 month old son.

maybe if the weather is dry go to London zoo (drive there), but if it's wet what's close by for:
- indoor shopping
- children indoors activities etc.?

If you are prepared to drive from Richmond to London Zoo, then there's loads to do :D

Then try Kew gardens if the weather is nice. Even if cold the palm house is toasty, & there are some fish in tanks in the basement. Fantastic kids play area too.

Or London Aquarium if the weather is really bad.

    For indoor shopping, try Westfield.

You do realise that, depending on the day and time, it could be a couple of hours drive from Richmond to London Zoo and I don't imagine the parking there is great/cheap either!?

Kew Gardens is a good shout and getting into Waterloo on the train is only about 20 minutes, central London's your oyster from there.

As long as you go on a Sunday it's fine. Free parking on most single yellow lines on the road the main entrance is on (outer circle). Do check the parking signs though, & plan to get there around 10am when it opens.

any 2 for 1 for London Zoo?

Also does anyone know what road traffic is like on a saturday around there as visiting friends in london and will go via Richmond.

Saw this on your other thread. NOOOOOO! Don't even consider driving there on a Saturday. Drive on Sunday, or get the tube &/or bus

thinking of main activities this saturday and maybe more chilled out on sunday so closer to richmond

    traffic that bad?
  • Yes. Remember there is a rugby match at Twickenham which will increase the already high levels of traffic. I would get the a couple of travelcards for you and your husband - the child is free.

Hampton court palace is definitely worth a day out, there's usually an ice rink in the winter and other events. In the summer there are ferries running up and down the Thames from Kingston and Richmond to Hampton Court palace. Kingston itself is a big shopping centre but a historic one and has a swimming pool with a wave machine.

Go to Richmond park to see some deer and there's a really nice cultivated garden inside called Isabella plantation.

Chessington World of Adventures is not far away either.
