Whats the best way to set up your own cost effective website? I need quite a simple one, probably one or two pages with possibly a way to contact me via email on it

Where do I start? Im getting some business cards from vistaprint and they have websites on there which you pay monthly for. Is that the cheapest way

Im not great shakes with techie stuff so need something simple to use and maintain

thank you

There are plenty of free website/hosting packages around, Yola springs to mind but try Googling for more. Alternatively, create a free blog using Wordpress or Blogger both have very simple interfaces and won't take much time to understand.

    Google Sites?
Basic, but simple to put together-and absolutely free.

For 'static content' then Google Sites may suffice. If you need PHP/MySQL/CGI then usually, have to pay.
I was using 000webhost free for 2 years with rich PHP content and good web space + performance but the limitations have now surfaced and I've been pushed to move to paid hosting.
  • Hi,

If you think you can get to grips with html then i'm sure you could build your own site. It's not that hard I started to do my own in June and I just used a template plus a FREE microsoft program called visual web developer express 2008, there is a new one called 2010 which is also free.

A quick google will allow you to find it and download it, much better than dreamweaver as it is free.

There is a site called freewebsitetemplate dot com who have loads of templates that can be changed for your needs.

You will need more that 3 pages, it is good practice to have these pages as well as a site map page but I don't think you will need it if you only have a couple of pages.

    Pages required.
