my printer (epson stylus c44 plus) died this evening (no flowers please) producing the tempermental message "this printer needs a service". It seems to have locked itself from printing.
is this printer message a bona fide one or a sneaky manufacturer's one after a certain number of copies? I have had no problems before with the printer.
is there a way around it? thanks
ps just reading up and its an ink pad problem. not sure if its worth looking into it or just getting a new printer!

I agree its probably the pads are full of ink. When the printer cleans its heads all the excess ink goes there. It probably would be expensive to get it cleaned by a dealer so suggest you have a go yourself. I had this problem with an Epson C46 and asked on this forum

I had a go. Getting the lid off was the hard part. In the C46 the ink pads were at the back and easily removed. Get some rubber gloves, take out the pads, rinse them out thoroughly, let them dry, put them back in, reset the counters with the software mentioned in the post above and you should be okay.
If this doesn't work, buy a new printer at less cost than the servicing would have been.0
