Lloyds TSB and their charges

Hi not sure if there is anything I can do but do to my mail going to my ex I didn'r realise that I had gone over my overdraft, about three months ago I looked at my account and thought yes im fine for three months and then maaged to get hold of my mail and I had gone £35 overdrawn, the reason being that my Lloyds Credit card was taking £28pm (agreed amount for fixed term) and the last payment they took was £90 which made me overdrawn, I have been told that im getting charged £15 per day. When I spoke to Lloyds I spoke to this woman who told me that my charges next month was £172 i explained that I would not be able to pay this and she said that I would be charged again, is there anything I can do?? I have been told today that I wil now be on a permanent contract at work which means I will now be getting paid monthly first pay cheque being 17th December

Politely ask for them to waive the charges.

    Start using online banking daily.

Get on top of your finances again.
  • Can I just confirm they took £90 instead of £28? And the current account and credit card are both with Lloyds TSB?

In which case you should have a very good case for asking for the charges to be refunded as they took more than they should have. Double check your last credit card statement...even if you agreed to pay £28 in the first month, if your balance goes up and the minimum payment is a percentage of the balance then your minimum payment will have gone up and might have reached £90.
If the minimum payment was indeed £28 then you should be covered by the direct debit agreement and money should be reimbursed and charges waived if its their mistake (to my knowledge). Sometimes if it is your first charge then it will be waived as a goodwill gesture. However, £172 is a bit steep!

Check your credit agreement to make sure charges are correct etc etc. If you struggle to pay them speak to them to arrange a payment plan/arranged overdraft for emergencies as opposed to unauthorised overdraft to stop you getting into more bother financially.

And definitely get on board with the online banking - I check mine at least every two days. And even if you trust your ex get your address changed with the bank - its simple to do with Lloyds TSB - I had to do it recently when I moved house. Plus you need credit info to be up to date for your credit file and if you need to apply for another financial product.

    Hope that helps!
This time last year - 3 credit cards and 2 overdrafts maxed out. This year - no overdrafts and one card with reasonable balance! It's strangely satisfying getting them cleared!
