Good computer repair company

Options
My computer just turns itself back off a few seconds after switching it on.

Can anyone recommend a good reasonably priced computer repair company I could use to get it fixed.

Thanx :)

  • Does your computer make a strange (or at least unusual to your computer) "code" of beeps before shutting down?

Would you feel confident opening the side of the tower if we suggest something to help in diagnosis?

Have you recently done anything unusal to your computer, like move it or bash it hard or lend it to the England Cricket team for batting practice (they just have so much difficulty seeing a ball you know!)

  • The black screen with white writing comes up, and it says:

"Windows has failed to start. A recent hardware or software change may have caused this"

It says to Launch Windows Start Up Repair, but it just shuts off before I can do that. It doesnt make any beeping noises when it turns off.

I have the original windows discs, if those are the discs you mean.

Its a Packard Bell computer, but I dont know what model it is.

I would be prepared to try and open the side of the tower, as long as its not too complicated. I dont want to break it even more and make it worse :o

with the original XP cd you should be able to do a repair install (does not lose data)

It could well be that the fan on the CPU has failed or jammed with dust, depending on the motherboard it could well automatically shut itself down to prevent heat damage.

Open the side and look at the fan(s), and see if it(they) goes round at a good speed when you switch on.

Some of the computers have big plastic pipes to put the exhaust air out of the side, you may have to remove that.

The windows failed to start message means just that, not necessarily driver etc problem.
