They paid for a service they did not receive.
Weird logic. Time to admit you got it wrong, rather than dragging it out!Hope over Fear. #VoteYes0 -
It would of cost them more If I had gone, as they would of paid petrol and evening meal on expenses.Well, I'm sure they'll go back into administration if their staff throw away £70 on a regular basis cos they can't be arsed driving.
Oh, and I knew someone would add that the £70 lost is the fault on the company finances!0 -

It's certainly one of them. The people tasked with running your company aren't going to be pleased when they get an invoice for a hotel room that no-one used, no matter how small the amount.Hope over Fear. #VoteYes0 -

If the OP had gone to the hotel, the employer would still have paid for a service they did not receive. And they would have been happy to pay for it.They paid for a service they did not receive.

You have convinced me not one little bit that I am wrong on this.
What if the second employee had been available to go? And a third employee went instead, who did use the hotel? Would you be arguing that the OP should be liable for the hotel in that case? Because the hotel would very definitely have been used.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. This was basically what I told them. Due to the bad weather conditions and very high winds that afternoon and evening, I didn't feel confident in doing that long drive in those conditions. My own safety comes before that of my employer.0 -
In my opinion I'd accept you didnt make a good decision and pay the money. I'm surprised the company are only asking for this and not going for any disciplinary action.... If the trip was optional, you could have said no when asked initially instead of last gasp.Light Bulb Moment - 11th Nov 2004 - Debt Free Day - 25th Mar 2011 :j0

I think the OP is a bit of a div for pulling out at the last minute. However, no extra cost has been incurred by the company. The other person could have used the hotel, but didn't.Happy chappy0

Wow. I can't believe you're not getting this. You gotta be trollin'
If the OP had gone to the hotel, then they would have received a service :huh:
Let's stick to the facts, rather than bringing 'whats' and 'ifs' into the discusssion.
The facts are that his company are paying for a hotel room that no one slept in. That's it. The end.
Let's use this little example. You visit McDonalds, make your order, pay your money, and they don't give you any food. You just walk away, right? I mean, you were willing to pay for the food anyway. You didn't make a loss.Hope over Fear. #VoteYes0 -

If the other person had been asked to go in the first place, then they wouldn't have needed a hotel room.Hope over Fear. #VoteYes0 -

Could you make your point without bringing "what's" and "ifs" into the discussion as you don't want others to do this?Let's use this little example.
