Employer says I have to pay back for cancelled hotel room

Then I have to say that to avoid being on their radar even more even if you have a legal right not to pay for the hotel that you pay it anyway because as someone said you could have been facing a disciplinary and also it won't bode well for the futureThe Googlewhacker referance is to Dave Gorman and not to my opinion of the search engine!
If I give you advice it is only a view and always always take professional advice before acting!!!

You have cost the company money and you have also inconvenienced them, by them having to send a different employee because you changed your mind. If I were you, I'd do as others have said and pay up, keep your head down, and be thankful that you are not facing disciplinary action.0

Why did you agree to do a thing when you must have known you didn't want to, I would be giving you a formal warning myself......Blackpool_Saver is female, and does not live in Blackpool0

I know it was probably wrong of me. I'm just wondering what the legality is of them asking me to pay back the hotel room.
If i was your line manager, you'd be fired. It wasn't an unreasonable request, you're in a car - yeah driving conditions aren't perfect but you're not getting wet are you? How would you feel if your employer "didn't fancy" paying you?
When you see the number of people currently out of work who'd crawl 200 miles over broken glass your attitude should change dramatically! Heck, it's not unheard of for companies these days to expect you to not only drive the 200 miles, but to then turn right back around, drive the 200 miles home again and switch your day off to the very next day as a way of "thank you"!Retired member - fed up with the general tone of the place.0 -

Funny you mention that. We normally get paid on the 28th of each month. The company are not paying us until the 30th this month due to company finance reasons. This is not the first time this has happened either. We have also been told that next month they are going to pay us 50% one week and the other 50% the week after.switch your day off to the very next day as a way of "thank you"!
How do you know that I've never been asked to change my day off at short notice before? It happens all the time actually.0 -

Are you in a union? if so, have you brought this to their attention? I'd be extremely concerned if my employer decided to pay me in such a fashion. How frequently does this happen?0 -
How big a company is it?0

Yes I'm in a union. I haven't brought it to their attention but other union members in the company have. (I'm the only union member here). The union haven't really done anything about it in the past apart from asking them to make sure "it doesn't happen again". I'm not sure if the union know about it happening again this time round yet or not. It happened nearly every month towards the end of last year, either paying late or paying half & half.
Company went into administration early this year and was bought out couple of month later. Everything has been fine until now.0 -
