The fact that it starts without the lift-pump would tend to indicate that the fault lies within that component.....essentially its only needed when changing the fuel filters....if it works ok without it drive on and see if the fault develops any further
Daiseychained between the injectors then back to the fuel pump. They let air in and the fuel line drains back overnight. Usually starts badly, and runs rough for a few seconds on start up. One sign is parking with the fuel tank end up helps, and it only costs a few pounds for the pipe.0 -
Well it was minus 4 this morning and the car started easily ! The only change i've made is to park the car on a slope ( back end highest)
Does this suggest the fuel is leaking back to the tank? (I'd squeeze the primer pump to check but the RAC cut it out when it split)
Possibly. A common fault on 90s-era diesel Mercs is leaky fuel pump seals, Mercedes engines draw the fuel up through suction so if there's an air leak around the pump, the fuel drains back into the tank overnight.
Dunno if that applies to your engine.0
