Tumble dryer-what type?

Hi all
We have bought a new house and in the fitted kitchen there was space for a washing machine under the bench and a tumble dryer "in a cupboard" Am I right in assuming the fact that the previous owner has taken her tumble dryer away means we can put a free standing machine in there (there is a hole leading outside for the vent) and I don’t have to look for a "built in" one?
Also the cupboard that the tumbler was in has a "bottom" to it i.e. the tumble dryer wasn’t stood on the floor. Does that have to stay or can I take it out? The one I want is the same size as the washing machine so will only fit under the bench if it can stand on the floor too.
Thanks!

Do you want it to be hidden behind the door of this cupboard? Is this just an ordinary base unit cupboard? If so, I doubt a regular size dryer would fit.
You will probably need to remove the whole cupboard unit.
You will also need some space for the vent hose to attach to the dryer and go to a pipe out through the wall with a cover flap outside.0 -

You will need to check the size of the space you have. As Jennifernil says, it is unlikely that a regular sized dryer will fit, unless the cupboard is particularly wide and the worktop is deeper (front to back) than normal.
I would suggest that the little podium left in the cupboard by the previous owner would suggest that a smaller than normal dryer was used. I'd liken your situation to having a tabletop dishwasher instead of a full-size one. The podium would allow the smaller machine to be at a reasonable level and ensure that the door isn't fouled by the kickplate under the kitchen units.0 -
Thanks
I don’t think its an ordinary cupboard, I think it has been built to accommodate her dryer (which she has taken with her)
I could be wrong though!

Have you got the measurements for the dryer you want? A standard vented one is usually about 85 cm tall, 60 cm wide and 60 cm deep, or possibly as deep as 63 cm.
Now measure your cupboard. How does it compare?0 -
Consider buying a condensing dryer - no need to mess around with vents and you get the dry exhausted heat rather than pushing it outside.Forgotten but not gone.0

but if the hole is already there then go with a vented one. condensing ones in a confined space can lead to mouldy bits.0
