I want to remove double glazing glass

OK next door have bought a new suite which won't fit through their door (hee hee!!). And have asked for some suggestions.
They have a large front room window, upvc, double glazed with internal beading). I have seen before people removing the glass, posting the suite through and replacing the glass; EASY!
However, i have had a go on my window (before i start damaging other peoples!) and i find that when using a knife i am damaging the internal beads.
What's the best way to remove the beading?
Is there any tips/pitfalls i should watch out for?

There's no easy option. You have to gently prise the bead away from the frame using a stout tool. There are tools you can buy for this purpose but for a one off i would use a rigid scraper no more than two inches wide.If the beads are mitred in the corners then the best place to prise is in the centre of the bead.If scribed in the corners then start in the corners.Once you get a part of it away from the frame then you can get hold of it and pull the rest away.Leave the top bead til last and get ready to hold the glass in case it starts to fall toward you.An added complication is if the windows have a back gasket or not. This can be removed first which makes the beads easier to remove.Back gaskets tend to be on older windows, not used much nowadays.0

Use a wide 3" scraper, put it in the gap between the beading and window frame and hit it with a plastic mallet.
The beading should pup out without damaging the beading or frame.0 -
As others have said a really thin scraper or something is a good way to ease the beading out.
Hopefully it won't have that sticky crap on the inside edge of the frame! Is the beading on the outside or inside?
If it's inside it's likely not to have. Outside, and it could be a different matter! :think:0 -
