Changing Read Only files on Windows 7

Posted a few days ago. Am having problems getting my new scanner to do a proper scan. It doesn't recognise the edge of photos and scans the whole A4 bed. Tried changing the format etc. but no luck yet.
Tried changing the photos in Windows Photo Live Gallery but it won't let me as the files are Read Only. All new folders are also being set as Read Only. Tried changing the properties, but they just revert back.
Anyone know how change this please ?
