Extending Natwest student account overdraft.

Options
Hi, i'm wondering if any of you can help me at all.
I got a natwest student account in september with £500 overdraft, however i have maxed this out due to my student loan leaving me short because of the price of rent. I am relatively tight with my money so not wasteful.
Will natwest extend this for me, interest free?
Do I need to go into the branch or can i just ring up or do it online?

Thanks.

  • You can apply for an interest-free overdraft - up to £1,000 in your first year. However, to help you budget we normally offer a limit of £500 in your first term, £750 in your second term and £1,000 in your third term.

i would recomend going into your nearest branch and discussing your options with them and see if they will waver the termly restrictions.

You'll need to ask them, but yes they may extend it. Otherwise CAREFULLY open another student account at another bank. Make sure you know the t&cs regarding having other accounts though, and don't get into trouble with debt.

Natwest usually have a branch near to the Universities. Go in there and see them. A few years ago I was in a similar position and they always helped me out but they will only push it so far - I think they used to allow one extension beyond their standard terms.

in my first year with Natwest I opted for the £1500 straight away
  • If they don't, move to HSBC. I have extended my interest free overdraft with them many times on online banking.

Thanks for the replies. I went into my nearest branch and spoke to a guy, he says that they couldn't extend it until january as they have limits on each term. He wasn't particularly helpful at all to be honest.
Is this down to the discrepency of the adviser?
