I've worked retail (clearance Next) and it was a nasty place to be at sales time.
I had a customer attempt to punch me when I told him we were closed and he couldn't come in, a guy push me out of the way when I was kneeling to finish a jewellery display (threw him out). I've been rammed by trollies, buggies, and had to chase parents around the store to tell them the shop isn't a playground for their darlings. I've watched people mark goods with pens to get discounts, been shouted at when I'm patiently trying to explain we don't have an item in stock, and had people turn and comment to me that they would 'never work in a shop, it must be disappointing to have no qualifications and have to take a dead end job.'
I do have qualifications- the job was a result of being made redundant, and having a mortgage that needed paid.
The point I'm making is, retail's bloody hard work. It's non-stop, all day, and all for a princely minimum wage. Yes, any decent person will aim to be as professional as they can on the floor, but sometimes, it's hard.0 -
Unfortunately the OP is one of those people who does not know the correct meaning of ignorance. It means "not knowing" something. Being unaware of the facts etc. Obviously, the sales assistants in this case do not fit that description. As such the complaint is meaningless.
In what sense does the sales assistant not fit the description, exactly? It's quite obvious - unless you too are ignorant of the facts. She was clearly lacking in the knowledge that what she was saying was unprofessional being that she was on the shop floor. Either that or she simply didn't care which is worse in my opinion.
I simply wanted to rant about her lack of professional courtesy which I'm quite entitled to do in this forum.
I could tell you a few stories about nasty customers I have encountered over the years, thankfully they are in the minority but I'm perfectly aware that some customers make the day harder than it needs to be. The difference between me and her is that I can recognise when it's appropriate to say something and when it's not.0 -

There are a fair few numpties in retail, but pehaps the comments were made with irony,as a joke?
Who could take that comment seriously?
I could get more "irritated" when you try to return faulty goods and the staff say says "no-one else has had a problem with it",but even so,I would inwardly 'roll my eyes' while politely demanding the service I know their Managers would expect them to give, with a smile on my face.0 -
The actions of a few should not make you think that all are the same,if you were so insulted do not shop there again.Forum spellcheckers are the pitts.0

I would not go around "ear wigging", you might find what some people divulge with each other on a personal level quite distressing.
I think this case was more a case of "tongue in cheek", nothing serious was meant by it. it was just a little banter that straying ears mistook for something other than loose talk.
Even I have been known to say "This job would be so much easier were their no customers to deal with", Nothing aggressive meant by it, its a simple whistle while you work, off the cuff kind of conversation, two staff members are likely to say when bogged down with a task. I cannot imagine turning around to a customer and saying this whilst looking in their eye.
It would be no different to the odd "tut" n "sigh" given out at the person ahead of you in a long queue, you will be surprised just how far behind the queue this will travel, particularly from the one at the very back. Nobody in the queue is at fault, yet it does not make the idea of queueing up any less stressful.:A:dance:1+1+1=1:dance::A

I can almost feel your buttock$ clenching as you typed that. Relax!"If you think it's expensive to hire a professional to do the job, wait until you hire an amateur." -- Red Adair0 -
Oh dear! You overheard part of a bit of banter between staff. Yes, should not have been able to hear it, but you admit you only heard part of the conversation. If you like the store and have been happy there before, I would not get too worked up about it. Continue to shop!0
