• Hi ALL,
The following link shows the full Judicial Review court dealings in great detail and is well worth a read. May I suggest you read the last days deliberations. http://glcoord.org/index.php/news There are points in there that I believe does show the Gvmt did put the cart before the horse and then tried to justify doing so. See what you think?

Don't forget to SPREAD THE WORD and get people to sign the E-petition, now nearly over 76k, just that final push please.

Regards

Ripoff

Hi Ripoff.

Same as before, I'm afraid - your link doesn't work. When I click on it, it tries to go to:

mhtml:{6EF71D81-FCE8-447B-947D-380BDD9A9C3B}mid://00000069/!x-usc:http://glcoord.org/index.php/news

Even if I strip off the first part and use just:

http://glcoord.org/index.php/news

it still doesn't work.

Any idea what's wrong?

Cheers.
• The links work fine for me.

CSPA newsletter for info. + template letter to MPs.

NEWSLETTER
Number 7818 November2011

Dear Colleague

PENSIONS UPRATING FOR 2012

In Newsletter Number 76 (21 October 2011), I told you that there had been speculation that the Government might wish to move away from the September CPI inflation figure for the purpose of uprating pensions from April 2012.

Since then, the Minister of State for Pensions, Steve Webb MP, has responded to our request for assurances that the September figure will be honoured by saying Next year’s pensions and benefit rates will be announced in the usual way, by Ministerial statement in December. The Government remains committed to the triple lock for the basic State Pension and to the CPI increases for the additional state pension.”

Whilst we accept Steve Webb’s personal good intentions on this, his assurances are less than water-tight and, in any event, he cannot guarantee what Treasury Ministers might decide. There is ample evidence that Ministers have been talking-up another financial crisis, possibly as a prelude to further austerity measures. Therefore, on Wednesday, your General Secretary, Mike Duggan, wrote to the Chief Secretary to the Treasury, seeking further assurances in advance of the Chancellor’s Autumn statement, which is scheduled for 29 November.

Yesterday, your General Secretary wrote in similar terms to all MPs asking them to bring pressure to bear upon Ministers.

If you have not already written to your MP (as requested in Newsletter Number 76) I urge to do so now. A model letter is appended for the purpose. (Just scroll down.)

We would be most grateful for your help with this. Speed is of the essence.
Yours sincerely
John Amos

INDEX-LINKING OF PUBLIC SECTOR PENSIONS

I am writing to you regarding the continuing speculation about changes to the up-rating of pensions and state benefits.

I am concerned about the possibility that the Treasury may increase benefits and pensions by less than the full 5.2 per cent annual increase in CPI inflation. As a public service pensioner, this would mean that the value of both my basic state pension and my occupational pension would fall in real terms.

Before the General Election, there were promises that accrued pension rights would be protected and there would be no change in the indexation for public sector pensions.

These promises have already been ignored by the Government’s decision to switch the indexation of pensions to from RPI to CPI, which means that the value of my pension has been cut.

Any decision to move the goalposts further by increasing pensions by less than the CPI will cause real problems. Rising fuel bills are a real problem. Many of us are worried that if we do not get a full increase next year we will struggle to pay our bills.

I understand that many of those in employment will not have an increase this year. In future years, however, they should expect their earnings to rise faster than inflation. As a public service pensioner, I will only see my occupational & Second State pension rising by inflation with no opportunity to make up the difference if an appropriate increase is withheld next April. This means that, in its attempt to deliver short term savings, the Government will lower my living standards permanently!

I urge you to use whatever opportunity you have to make it clear to Ministers that trying to balance the books by punishing further some of the poorest in society through a pensions freeze or a lower than inflation rise in pensions would be both unfair and unacceptable.

Yours sincerely

Steve Webbs statement: “Next year’s pensions and benefit rates will be announced in the usual way, by Ministerial statement in December. The Government remains committed to the triple lock for the basic State Pension and to the CPI increases for the additional state pension.” is blatantly vague. A typical polititians words - couched so that they can be later interpreted, by them, to mean anything they wish.

For example the CPI figure used could be a 6 months, or twelve months average rather than the Sept figure and still allow our 'honorable' member to say " well, that's what I meant - what's the problem?"
