!
Miners Strike II was planed militarily by Thatcher. She stockpiled over a period to ensure that the miners would be "starved" out.
With their track record thus far I wonder whether this lot have done their homework so well?"If you act like an illiterate man, your learning will never stop... Being uneducated, you have no fear of the future.".....

I asked the following question of my Tory MP.
Why he couldn't have answered YES or NO is beyond me
The answer is cunningly disguised in the post.:rotfl:"If you act like an illiterate man, your learning will never stop... Being uneducated, you have no fear of the future.".....

I have just watched Ed Balls speaking on BBC news channel.
Unusually, I find myself agreeing with a politician. His points that changes to PS pension schemes should be introduced gradually and for new members rather than suddenly re-writing the scheme rules to pull the rug from under those over 50 and beyond, and that a strike will give the opportunity for the government to distract attention from the core matters and also to blame them on strikers both seem like good sense to me.0 -

Not really, the answer "The short answer is we don't know yet" which is what I assume you are refering to, is a non answer because Ex MP's pensions should have had their pensions increased in April by CPI, like mine was. So when I asked specifically if ex MP's pensions have been uprated by CPI in April the answer should have been Yes or No because they will know what increase Ex MP's have had in April, and whether that was RPI or CPI. To say they don't know yet implies they have not been uprated this year which I doubt and if they have not been, he could have said that. I suspect they have been uprated but by RPI and they do not want to admit that, either way why can't they just say?0 -

Even Hutton says that any changes do not have to be immeadiate and that during a pay freeze, which is now 2 years moving to 3 years that it would be wrong to then ask for a further increase of 3.2%. This could be delayed until after the pay freeze he says. All changes of this nature should be gradually brought in and Ed Balls is right in what he is saying, I agree with him, as you say very unusual to agree with a politician but on this occasion the Gvmt is out of order and plainly wrong to dictate terms when negociations are not over or even stalled. They appear to want a fight! Just like the RPI to CPI issue they have pulled the rug from under us and seem to believe that it is right to do so.0 -

So if they don't even know the facts and they have implimented the RPI to CPI change already what else are they getting so wrong? Keep fighting the RPI to CPI robbery where ever you can we need to get this WRONG put RIGHT.0 -

I have received a reply from my MP about the index linking of their pensions. He says that they are still linked to RPI and will be until at least 2012/13 when IPSA will undertake a review of their pensions.
How interesting that the changes to their generous scheme have has been put on hold for up to two years. Why? A cynic would argue that they are hanging on to RPI for as long as possible, while linking other pension schemes to CPI with indecent haste and without consultation.
Why are the unions and the media not highlighting this anomaly? We are being duped again. It's as if the expenses scandal had never happened.0 -

This is exactly what I thought from the evasive reply of my MP. Perhaps you could put the actual wording from your letter on this thread so that people are in no doubt that this is the case and perhaps others on the thread would like to raise this issue with the media and their own MP. Lets make a fuss to show this hypocrisy for what it is. Yet another disgraceful case of double standards, it's alright for us to be forced on to CPI indexing from April 2011 but not for our MP's and the BOE, disgusting! comes to mind and other words I can't repeat in public!
Obviously CPI is such a good measure of pensioner inflation for US we have to have it right away at 3.1% but MP's can have 4.6% RPI because RPI is such a bad measure. The Government and Steve Webb & Co are hypocrits and need to be exposed as such.
We are, as I have been saying for months now, NOT ALL in this together. WE need to fight this injustice and get RPI restored for ALL, not just the few and WE need to raise this with our politicians again and again and again until they finally get the message.
This WRONG needs putting RIGHT!0
