Gas & electricity bill virgin... Where to start?

Hi,
I'm about to move in a lovely flat and have no idea how to go about arranging my gas and electricity suppliers.

I never paid bills like that before as everything was included in my rent.

What I know about the flat is that it has free heating and hot water as the heat comes from a ground source. So we will be using gas only for cooking which should be cheap and I think we will need someone who supplies cheap electricity.

The current owners are with edf. Do we have to stay with their supplier? I don't even know how much they pay.

I feel lost and confused.
Help!

You have a deemed contract with the existing supplier (EDF) from the day you move in. Take meter readings on arrival and register for an account with EDF using those readings. Once that is done, you can then switch to whichever supplier you prefer. Check your best tariff using a comp site and then switch via a cashback site for maximum benefit.
    It's a very simple process.
