I'm on a Fixed Price until June 2011 - but even so I've been exploring alternatives over the last few weeks

However, like you, I think the best thing I can do is keep an eye on what is happening and hope that prices will settle down a bit over the next few months

Strange, is it not, that these 'hikes' always seem to happen just before the start of the heaviest seasonal usage periods!

It takes about 2 minutes to do a check on a comp site, so why not do one now and in the New Year? Or indeed more often if you wish.

  • macman. i know i could do one everyday but i spose what i really mean is it worth changing supplier now (which i think takes 28days or is it 3 months)or just waiting a month to see what all the the suppliers are going to.i would have thought as soon as one company puts there price up the rest will follow suit.ps im not looking to get tied into a contract

All depends what tariff you are on now. If you wait until New Year, it will be early Feb before the switch takes effect, so you'll be half way through the winter peak period.
If you are on a tariff ending soon, then you may then be back on standard tariff, which is the most expensive,
3 suppliers have already raised prices, the other 2 will follow very shortly. Only EDF have bucked the trend so far.
All the best deals will lock you into a minimum term contract, usually around 12m. The ETC is usually around £30 per fuel, so don't get too hung up on that-you'll usually recover that just on the cashback alone, regardless of any price savings.

Dream on. That's why they want you to sign a marriage contract, with an alimony clause called Early Termination Charge. The girl friend that you can kiss and leave is called Miss Standard Tariff.

Then yes, because as of next Weds you will revert to standard tariff (unless you are on Websaver 7 and have received the 'contract extension' email today). That is the single most expensive tariff-and Dec/Jan will be in your peak consumption period.

And she is very high-maintenance indeed...
