Macromedia flash - is it evil?

I'm a bit of a technophobe but I remember my brother (technowhizz) saying that a certain video watching type program was 'evil'.
There is a clip I'd like to view and the website is prompting me to download macromedia flash... Is it generally thought of as 'safe' or 'evil'?
Thanks in advance for any thoughts.

It's safe but very annoying. Websites with "skip flash intro" option always make me shout "of course." Nah, I'd rather spend 30 seconds watching some crap animation and go "oh wow that's good".Happy chappy0

I think you mean Adobe Flash

Thanks will download it in a bit... It definately says 'Macromedia flash player' though, not Adobe Flash.
While I'm on the subject I keep getting prompted to download the latest Java updates, now I don't recall installing whatever 'Java' is, but is it safe to download the updates or should I try and get rid of it?0 -

superscaper was referring to the fact that Macromedia is now owned by Adobe.
If you've updated already, you'll have probably seen that you do the update from the Adobe website.Dave. :wave:0
