None are closed here, and so far all planning to be open tomorrow as well. Not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted. Einstein0

Most of the schools around here are closed.
It'd look well if the care homes, hospitals, fire brigade etc all said 'Sorry we have 2" of snow so we have to close guys". If you ask me they're a bunch of fairies all wanting a day off. I feel sorry for the parents (i.e. the nurses, fire fighters, care assistants) all rushing around like fruit loops trying to find alternative arrangements.0 -
No schools closed here again. Perhaps the weather is much more treacherous in other areas? Not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted. Einstein0

For instance:
1) if mother spends the food/clothing money on fags and father spends the rent on booze, should that constitute poverty?
2 if two identical families have exactly the same income, but one is in debt (for whatever reason) to such an extent that they can't afford food/clothing/rent, are both families in poverty?
isn't the child (whom this poll focuses on) living in poverty either way?0 -

Edit (16.32) Now we have though
In the south are you?
Not bearing the brunt of this awful weather if 16.32 without heating.
Modern life, too much to ask to at least be warm?
Granted, many could afford it but being miserly choose not to spend, like you.
We are one of the richest conglomerates of countries in the world supposedly!0 -
All relative, why should such a developed country, with a world leading financial base in London, be so backward in providing for it's own?0

Why should the living conditions be so dire for a great many in a supposed 'rich' country?
Though, always be those warm & fine.
Who begrudge affording that luxury to all.
Why should the living conditions be so abundant, in all ways, for only a fraction of those who abide in this amalgamation of countries that constitute the UK?0 -

No.
Certainly in the first example the overriding issue affecting the child is abuse, not poverty.
And your comment fails to address the 2nd example, which attempts to point out that absolute income is not necessarily a determining factor in deciding poverty - which the poll seems encourage people to think.Conjugating the verb 'to be":
-o I am humble -o You are attention seeking -o She is Nadine Dorries0 -
I have recently moved to Africa (Kenya)
Here I see some of the richest people and some of the poorest
I see kids starving, homeless, parentless etc
This is real poverty
Give any one of these kids the supposed uk poverty and they would think they are living like kings
I grew up in supposed poverty in the uk
But in reality we were poor by comparison
None of the options I saw listed say poverty to me, simply poor by comparison0
