sick note

Hi, I've been off sick for over 2 weeks and I've spoken to my doctor and have have been advised they are going to charge me £10.00 for a sick note.
Is this correct? When I was working full time there was no charge. I can understand a charge if it was less than 7 days.
I admitted it was for my university since they have requested it and currently I'm on leave from work.
Please advise. It does seem very unfair for if I was to say it was for my employers the'd be no charge.
