Employment & Support Allowance

I became disabled in November 2009 and I am receiving DLA. Am I entitled to Employment and Support Allowance if I have £5000 (plus interest) in savings and around £2000 in my current account?
Thanks for your help, Neil

If you are eligible for Contributions based ESA, your savings will not be taken into account. Your eligibility will depend on what NI Conts you paid in tax years 07/08 and 08/09.
If you are not eligible for CB ESA, you can claim Income based ESA. This will take into account any other household income (do you have a partner?), and savings over £6,000. If you have £7,000, £4 will be deducted from your weekly ESA entitlement.Gone ... or have I?0 -

In the year ending 2008 and the one ending 2009 I was a full time student living on a student loan and I was not working. Am I entitled to income based E&SA. I do not have a partner, but I live with my brother who is now claiming Carer's Allowance. He has about the same savings as I do.0

OP this is going to sound really stupid but are you actually entitled to ESA full stop?
DLA does not entitle anyone to claim ESA as there are people who have care/mobility needs and legitimately claim DLA but who can work and so they are not entitled to ESA.
Also are you completely incapable of any work at all or would the nature of your disability mean that you need extra support to find work?0
