Redundancy vs compulsive Redundancy

Hi there,

Just a question for a friend.

He and he only is being made redundant from a small company. He's 51 and been there 4 years.

What are the differences between him accepting redundancy and compulsive redundancy - note they are not offering him any extra package for accepting it.

Does it affect him benefits wise? Or notice of leave?

Please please help
Regards

  • Shouldn't affect Jobseekers Allowance (Contribution based for first 6 mths). A change back in 2007 means that volunteers can claim immediately rather than having to wait. Whether his notice will be affected depends on what is on offer to volunteers and what are the terms of the compulsory redundancies. Volunteering could affect him if he has any redunancy insurance linked to a mortgage or whatever. I think this normally only pays out if it's compulsory redundancy.
