Help!! Being robbed by Santander.

After I cancelled the transaction and took my card out, I didn't check the screen. My wife and daughter were stood behind me and I simple turned to them and told them we would have to use another ATM. So from getting my card back and walking a way would have been around 8-10 seconds and nothing was dispensed.0 -
I didn't hear any cash being counted or any beeping sounds even as I slowly walked away to the NatWest machine across the way.
...
If money was dispensed after I had gone and someone else took it, can I really be liable for that?
You said you went to NatWest machine, did you manage to get money out of that one? If so it seems unlikely that your account was debited from that machine as that's the daily limit (Was for A&L).
If the machine did cough up the cash and you walked away (without checking screen) then yes that would be your fault because it could be argued that you didn't wait a 'reasonable' time. If you can get proof of the theft you may be covered by some type of insurance?Santander are awful - mission in life is to warn people since 17-Sep-10, 18-Sep-10 realised one of thousands.0 -
The NatWest ATM didn't give me any cash. I then tried a Yorkshire Bank ATM it also declined. That's when I realised something was wrong. I will see what the police have to say and hope the CCTV footage will shed some light on this issue. I'm now looking around to switch banks.0

If it was taken by someone else it must have been at about the time you were trying the next machine - because,AFAIA cash is pulled back into the atm within a few seconds if not removed by the customer.0

Well, the CCTV will show me at the Santander ATM, cancel the transaction, take my card and walk away without any cash. If there is another user at the ATM just after me, the bank should be able to verify who this was and from the timestamps (ATM time and CCTV footage time) should be able to determine if this person actually used the machine or not. If the footage shows a considerable delay in the ATM being used after me eg. 1-2 minutes then I might be able to argue that the ATM was not working properly.0

Also I am hoping these ATMs are able to log the keys pressed so that it can be verified that I did cancel the transaction and just got my card back. If cash was dispensed it could have only been left in view for say 20 seconds before being sucked back in. I know nothing about ATM technology, so someone knowing better can answer that one.0
