Resizing calculations

I've come across a site that requires images to be resized to nor more than 250 kilobytes.

If the original image is, say, 2.7 megabytes, what is the formula I need to get within the limit?

i'm not sure there is one, as a common way to adjust filesize is co convert to a different image format, ie from .bpm to .jpg, or to reduce the actual size of the image, ie 1024x768 to 899x600.
With the file size you mention, I suspect you're dealing with a bitmap (.bmp) I'd suggest downloading the free trial of vso image resizer] and just drop it to 800x600 and i imagine that would fall well within the file size limit, while still retaining much of the quality of the image.

No, not bitmap!:D

I take all my pics on the highest jpg setting, so my files are not infrequently of that sort of size.

Therefore

250 / (2.7*1024) = 0.0904, so if you're resizing on a percentage of original size basis, it looks like 9.04% of original.
