Travel Insurance Claim

Hi, I recently made a claim on my travel insurance and they seem to be dragging their heels. To give a bit of background, DH and I were due to go away around Christmas but I was made redundant in August so we had to cancel as we couldn't afford the balance payment. We had paid deposit of £500. In order to claim back the £500 the insurer (White Horse Administration Services - based in Ireland) is asking for proof of my entitlement to statutory redundancy pay.
The company I worked for I was also Managing Director. So when the company shut down, I made myself and the 1 other employee redundant and paid myself and the other person redundancy pay. I sent them this information on my company letterhead but they wouldn't accept it as it was a letter signed by me (however there are no other directors so I was the only one who could sign!).
They are asking for proof from the goverment that I am entitled to SRP, all I ever received was my P45 which my accountant sent to me. They asked then for a letter from the HR department, which of course I don't have as there were only 2 of us in the company.
Whenever I speak to them they are very unhelpful and keep telling me I need to send "proof from the government" of my entitlement to statutory redundancy pay. I keep trying to explain I don't understand what form this would take, I offered a letter from my accountant but they said it has to be from HMRC.
I am at my wits' end, obviously at a time like this £500 could really go far. If anyonecan suggest a way to move forward I would be very very grateful.

Contact HMRC with your P45 details and additional information. Would have thought they could provide the information the Insurers are seeking. The comments I post are personal opinion. Always refer to official information sources before relying on internet forums. If you have a problem with any organisation, enter into their official complaints process at the earliest opportunity, as sometimes complaints have to be started within a certain time frame.0
