I won't go into the ins and outs but I would be very greatful if someone could confirm or deny my thoughts.
The brief -
Drains on property become blocked, claim on buildings insurance with £150 excess.
1) would the excess need paying before or after the work is carried out?
2) who would the excess be paid to, insurance company or drain company?
3) other than the £150, would any cash changes hands between the policy holder and the drain company or would it all be done through the insurance company?
Many thanks.

Depends on the tradesman - before is probably more usual

Depends on your Insurer not all do direct billing so expect you to pay and reclaim - check with your insurer.
Many thanks.
Only other thing to bear in mind is that for "blocked drain" it must have been caused by an "Insurable Event"0
