Hotmail query

When I log onto Hotmail, at the top right of the screen is my name and when I click on that it says I am sometimes logged into "messenger" and I often have to log out manually each time I check my email. Does this mean I am appearing online on msn as I'd rather not have to and there doesnt seem to be a way to turn it off.

After a decade of using hotmail I may just change email providers

I clicked my name, signed out of messenger, then signed out of hotmail, logged back in and Messenger is now off. When I click my name it has an option to sign in. (Using Firefox)
Seems to work...
