College Fee £495 Helpppp!!!

Can anyone help me. I had to pay £495.00 for an English Course. I now can't carry on due to ill health but the college are saying I can't have my money back. Does anyone know a way around this as I feel it is really unfair for the government to just take mt money??

Any Advice would be greatly appreciated!! :o

    What course? What level?
    Where were you taking it?
Have you started? If you have how long have you been studying there?
  • The government has nothing to do with it, it's the provider who keeps the money.

  • Heyy,

Its a HEFC, English and I think it's something like an equivilant to an A-Level maybe. I started in mid september and I have been to about 5 classes. A college in gateshead.

Thanks for looking at this i really don't have a clue!
  • i guess it's too late for them to get someone else in to fill your spot and that they've costed the course based on a set number of students.... which doesn't seem entirely unfair. any chance you could try to ask about postponing to a course next year when you're better?

is the course full time or part time? what course info do you have? do you have any paperwork from paying them the money?

  • I wouldnt say its too late for someone to take my place as a new girl just started 2 weeks ago and its a part time course 4 hours a week. All we have done so far is one assignment and I know the new girl got to hand hers in at a later date.

I could ask to delay for a year but I don't want to go to uni anymore because my health is a bit iffy atm. I paid £995.00 to the college before i started either HEFC by direct debit and I do have paperwork for that also I have bank statements.

Do you really think its too late? I have a meeting with the college today about it.
