Gas fire or central heating?

Options
Hi
I live in a 1 bed flat, and have just been putting the gas fire on in the lounge rather than the central heating. im wondering whether this is the cheaper option or putting the heating on would be more cost effective??
thanks

kerry

I have been testing this out recently - I found that my boiler uses roughly 3 times more gas than my fire, so I have the heating on in the mornings ( so my bedroom and bathroom are warm) and have the gas fire on in the living room in the evening.
  • I am very interested in any replies also as I was just about to search for an answer to same question, however we have 3 bed house but I have been doing the same thing and just turning heating on for 3 hours each evening.

You are paying for the pilot light to be on any way. So just as well to use the boiler.
Control the heating to individual rooms by using the Valve thingy TVR?
Also an electric blanket is good source of cheap heat. You probably need to cover it to prevent linting, but literally pennies per evening.
