Bath Pop Up Waste - How to Remove?

Hopefully this should be a pretty straight forward question:

Does anyone know how to safely remove (without breaking) the bit that you twist to open the plug on this type of pop up waste mechanism?

Although not identical. it's very similar to this:

I can't find an obvious way of removing it and I don't want to force the mechanism and break it.

It may just be a push on or it may be held in place by a grub screw. Look underneath it - you may see a small hole in it. If so that will take a small screwdriver or an alan key. Screwdriver/key in hole and a little manual dexterity should enable you to loosen off the grubscrew enough in order to remove it.

Thanks. There is a little hole on the underside of it and I've already tried to look in there with a torch ... unfortunately it's a bit grotty in there (needs a good clean) so can't really see if there is a screw or not.

Just wondered if there was a 'universal' method used for securing these types of mechanism. Seems like there could be a number of different ways then.

The one that I installed last summer was fixed into place by a brass nut from inside the bath. It was supplied complete with a plastic spanner to tighten it up with. You need to remove the plug part from the waste. It will either lift out or unscrew.
I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.

Interesting. I assumed OP meant Part A. I think 27 has assumed OP meant Part B.

    Perhaps OP could confirm. Tks.

You'll have to do it by feel - thats what I meant by manual dexterity.

    No not really.

  • Hi there

I'm having a similar problem. Can anyone tell me how you remove the drain part at the bottom of the bath, Part B in the picture.

I have a gold pop waste but changing it to a chrome one.

    Thanks

should be a screw under the pop up part. marked B as above.
if youre lucky enough to find the same make, its a straight swap. gold to silver.

otherwise youll need to get under the bath and change the whole lot.
    Get some gorm.

Part B on ours (which is exactly like the picture) just pulls out as it is not attached inside. All you do to adjust it, is fiddle with the brass screw to make sure it sits firmly in the plug hole.

  • Hi, it's probably too late to help with your problem (!) but this may help others looking for the answer to this problem....

It's usually possible to lift out the plug assembly with a rubber sucker, the type you get with a satnav, toy dart or similar.

    Hope this helps someone!
