    Thanks for the replys.

Basically it is for me and dd to use for the internet, messenger etc..storing photos on and her homework and my owrk (letters). Office is not overly important as use word now and am happy with an equally cheaper or free one tbh..would use it for work though so want a fairly good one.

    Found this:
    http://www.pcworld.co.uk/gbuk/advent-firefly-fp9004-19-lg-03613905-pdt.html

Dont want to spend loads tbh as it is for basic use..when i said games dd plays ones off the internet and watches the odd dvd. Bought 2 pc's while with dh one in the £1k region and the other £700 and tbh they didnt do anything spectacular so not going mad!

    Thanks.

Why are you so determined to buy from PCW/DSG?
Look at the hundreds of tales of woe on this forum from those who have done just that...

It's when you do have a problem with a DSG product that the real problem starts.

gaby what is your maximum budget you are willing to go to including delivery?

and do you want everything new including new keyboard mouse speakers and monitor or would you be willing to reuse any of the older bits you might have?

do you have any specific space requirements (case and montior)?

do you want included wireless so it doesnt have to be close to the router, or have cables going across the room?

on a £100 shop you might on average get 70 items save
    10p per product = £7 a week ~ £28 a month
    20p per product = £14 a week ~ £56 a month
30p per product = £21 a week ~ £84 a month (or in other words one weeks shoping at the new price)

if you can answer Gonzo's questions above we'll be able to get close, whether or not you can re-use the screen/keyboard/mouse or want new ones will make a difference although these are fairly cheap to buy new separately in any case.

Mouse £5-£20+ new depending on quality
Keyboard £2-£15+ new depending on quality
Screen £90-£200+ depending on size and quality

Hi ok well for starters i have no pc at all..me and dh split so he has it. I have my netbook which is great but no good for work as too small.

    Budget: £500 tops
Everything new yes as like i said i am starting from scratch
Case pref one of the smaller ones i put on..monitor about 19-20" would be good.
Wireless i'm not fussed about, the point for it all is right where the desk will go so wont be able to see any cables anyway.

    Thanks x

well personally i am not a big fan of small form factor computers as it limits upgradability and increases possibility of heat problems this being said there are a few out there which are pretty good

i have so far only had a look at DinoPC as they always seem to be well priced (although if i get chance i will have a look around at other places tonight, all depends if my little lets me), i however have not used them to buy anything so do not know what the customer service is like

small form factor came up with this http://www.dinopc.com/shop/pc/configurePrd.asp?idproduct=946 to get it under £500 you need to
    drop to 2GB of RAM
    drop to onboard graphics
add keyboard, mouse and speakers combination (£12.19)
    add 19 inch monitor
brings it to £475.49 and they operate a £25 delivery charge from what i can work out

this system is quite good for future upgradability if you need it, especially when you consider the PC World ones are not designed for upgrades as most of the time they have the absolute minimum powersupply they need so no spare power for a dedicated graphics card, they have also been known to (and i dont know if they still do this) put a sticker over over the seal of the case which voids the warrenty if broken, meaning you cant even open the case to clean inside,
as you can see the system above is originally sold with 4gb of ram and a dedicated graphics card - so these are potential future upgrades (which are very easy to do) if you do require them at any point as the power supply has not been changed so will have enough juice to power these 'extras'. it is also a very small system measuring Dimenstions (L x W x H)286 x 220 x 177 mm compared to 320 x 175 x 320 mm for the parkard bell, it also includes a much better processor as the 'core 2' processors on the pc world systems have been superseeded by the 'core i' processors included in the above build

however if you are willing to have a larger form factor case this might be of interest http://www.dinopc.com/shop/pc/configurePrd.asp?idproduct=935
    change to the X4 CPU
drop to GT 240 graphics card (this will give a massive performance increase over intergrated graphics cards and will allow a much broader range of games to be played)
add keyboard mouse and speaker bundle
    add 22 inch monitor
    drop to piano black case
brings the price to £471.58 plus the £25 delivery

this system at £449 is also a very good 'base' spec http://www.dinopc.com/shop/pc/configurePrd.asp?idproduct=940

Thanks for that reply. Sounds daft but i am awaiting the delivery of a desk and not sure how big the cupboard is in it..the smaller unit appeals more as not going to upgrade anything in it as wouldn't have a clue tbh! Will put desk together when here and see from there.
    Thanks.
