Car Loan after bankruptcy

Options
Can anybody recommend any legitimate companies that supply credit to ex bankrupts?

My background is a business related bankruptcy in October 2006. Discharged early 6 months later after OR found no wrong doing, just simple mistakes. My credit history shows that some of the items in the bankruptcy were not settled on credit history until up to 2 years after the discharge date, which I'm sure is not right, but it's a question for another thread.

I know I could save the money and buy a car outright, but I don't want to. I'm trying to rebuild a credit history so in 2 years ish when bankruptcy goes from my credit history I can get a mortgage.

So far I've managed to get a couple of small loans for dell laptops (creation finance) and a catalogue account. All payments are made on time. The catalogue I try to ensure has a small amount of credit on it (around £100, credit limit being £2k) as my understanding is that credit history is built by actually having and using credit.

So, I'm now at the stage where I want to try for something bigger. I'm aiming for £5k over 2 years. Tried the bank (barclays) who turned me down flat. So does anyone know anyone that lends to this kind of history at reasonable rates ( I refuse to pay the stupid rates, I'll just wait and pay cash if that's the only credit option )

I think you'll struggle to find anyone who will lend at that level whilst your bankruptcy still shows, or certainly not anyone at reasonable rates. Regarding your credit file have a look here for info Credit Reference File Clean Up Post Bankruptcy

I would think that you would have better luck getting HP for a car as at least then the debt is secured against the car. You would, of course, need to find the deposit required though.
My posts are my own opinions based on my experiences and info gathered from sites such as this.
