aberned wrote:Tigerlily............I've been looking into this option. Currently have storage heating on Total Heating Total Control and its obscenely expensive (£250 per month at the moment - only heating half the house). I cant really put in underfloor heating now, so will have to use radiators. Is this what you have? or do you have underfloor as well?
Assuming its only radiators, are they a special type or the same as you had previously?
Thanks

£250 a month?
Are you sure that your heaters are not 'out of sync' with the cheap rate timings? i.e. you are paying at full daytime rates for your heat?0 -
Nope all synchronised OK. My day rate is fine - I'm hardly using anything - bu the night rate is using approx 85% of my overall consumption and on Scottish Hydro Electric's Total Heat Total Control - so there isn't even an obvious choice to change suppliers.
To make matters worse - I'm onlly heating 7 radiators in 4 rooms (including the upstairs and downstairs hall) I darent switch on the convectors in the bedrooms or bathrooms.
Latest ground source quote looks to be approx £23k not including any grant I can get. Sadly about double what I'd expected. Suggestions anyone?0 -
Hi, well I am still impressed with the new system. I now have the on/off settings perfected to my needs. I dont heat the hot water as I just dont use hot water, I have an electric shower and just boil a kettle for the washing up. The heating pattern is as follows...... Mon to fri, On-5am, Off 9.30am. On- 4.30pm, Off 11pm.....Sat and Sun, On 6am, Off 11.30am. On, 1pm, Off, 3pm. On 4.30pm, Off 11.30pm.
I kept a track of things last week and my total electricity used for the whole week averaged out at 88p per day, this is ALL use not just the heating.
Some of my old rad's were kept and some replaced so I guess you can use old ones but generally the system runs with bigger pipes, it was only the tail end of the loop which feeds the bathroom and loo which was left as was but its still heats everywhere more than adequately.Debt free = December 2010...as of March 2006 it is now January 2010..... as of December 2008 it is now December 2009 :j hopefully sooner!!:jDEBT FREE:j January 2012, took longer but I got there, all by myself, through sheer hard work and pride!0 -
Hi Tigerlily,
You are a very special person. Three years ago there were about 300 people with a GSHP in Britain. Now they have been joined by 3000 more, including QEII in London SW1 and you. Perhaps we have a socialist government after all.
I'm seriously investigating the possibility of getting a GSHP for my isolated bungalow BUT I don't want to make a 30 year expensive mistake.
Over on a fuel thread, the general response is that GSHP (ie electricity multiplied by 3 or 4 times) is expensive to run and instal.

Can you tell me
1. Were any special insulation measures put in place at you home ?
2. Do you know which firm designed and managed your installation ?
3. Does the pump say who built it ? Has it been made from component parts or is it a packaged box ?
Kind regards,
Harry.

Now what have I done with my loaves and fishes ?0 -
Hmmm, can't make up my mind about that post!! Genuine or taking the pish!! Assuming it is genuine, I'll look into the answers to your questions and repost when I know.
P.S. Still chuffed to bits with it all:jDebt free = December 2010...as of March 2006 it is now January 2010..... as of December 2008 it is now December 2009 :j hopefully sooner!!:jDEBT FREE:j January 2012, took longer but I got there, all by myself, through sheer hard work and pride!0 -
Hi tigerlily,
Midsummer greetings from Essex to Cornwall; Yes I am genuine if a bit ironic at times.
I will put my thinking cap on and see if I can further clarify my situation, so you can understand what I need to know.
Best wishes,
Harry.0
