Sound problem

Hi I have quite a new Packard Bell Easynote TM86 laptop. Everything on it is working well except for sound. When I plug in headphones, I can hear a relatively loud buzzing sound. The pitch of the sound can change when the laptop is busy and can reduce if I'm not moving the cursor around. When listening to music or watching a video, the sound is barely detectable but still annoying.
Overall the sound is quite annoying and I was wondering if anyone has heard of the problem and knows how to fix? I emailed packard bell and all they said was to send it to them, but to be honest, that is a solution I'd rather avoid. When I first got the laptop (about 5 months ago), the sound definitely was not that there and has developed over the last 2 months. I can't link installing or changing a setting to this problem, but that does not mean it isn't something I have done
Thanks in advance

Does it happen when powered by the mains only, or is the problem present when running solely on battery power as well?Remember kids, it's the volts that jolt and the mills that kill.0

I've got a Dell which has a regular "Tick, tick, tick" on the headphone output - I concluded that they'll probably all be like that and got a headphone box that works off USB - much better.0
