Buying 4 new tyres - but which ones ?
Comments

I own a Focus 2007 2.0TD and replaced the tyres with the highly recommended Continental Premium Contact2, they weren't cheap and though the grip was brilliant they didn't last long (about 12k).
Anyway I was in the Ford garage chatting to the service guy and he was telling me that some new Fords were arriving at the garage with Hankooks straight from the factory, so I decided to give them a shot. VERY impressed I was too, around £30 a tyre cheaper and good levels of grip in the dry/wet. Also lasting a lot longer with a marked difference in fuel economy.
If money was no object I'd go for Continentals every day of the week, but in the real world Hankooks are my choice.0 -
Interesting. I have Continental Premium Contact and they were alright but not great in snow (real not just London powdery stuff!
), just not enough grooves. They did O.K in rain and offered decent dry grip to be fair. Wear was fine- FWD diesel lump and 21.5K so far.
I've gone for All-Seasons- picked Nokian eNtyre and we'll see how it gets on. Nokian gets a good name for its winters so lets hope the all-season provides the balance of good grip in winter but better summer properties.0 -

Same here!
Check out Cooper Avon Tyre's (Avon)
They're like... The premium brand you rarely hear about.
I recently got a set of ZV5's (because nobody wanted to sell me winter tyre's and I was getting desperate).
I don't race around, but I don't hang about either, I drive at the speed limit unless there's a real reason not to.
In the dry they have less grip than my old Bridgestone's.... The sidewall is softer and the cornering is less positive as a result.
But in the wet they're 5x better than the Bridgestones ever were!
A really good compromise in my opinion.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”
