Reg.no. entry, engine-size insurance-quote problem

Options
Just been getting some quotes today and used the reg number entry to get the car details. Most came up correctly, some came up with a model option for me to choose but some just assumed the smaller bhp of the 2 same capacity engine options. When I manually corrected that item the quote went up a good 30%!! I know there's the opportunity to correct the details later (if spotted) but better to get the quotes sorted. So if you use the reg.no. entry check the details the DB uses, especially engine type/bhp before signing up.

You are suppose to check everything on your car insurance quote.

With my own car until recently I had to manually enter the details for it. It's not a new car.
    I'm not cynical I'm realistic :p

(If a link I give opens pop ups I won't know I don't use windows)
  • When i first bought my (second hand) car , i entered the reg number to get online quotes. The engine size always came up as a 2L when in fact my engines only a 1.4 ?

most of the information is provided by dvla, so ensure its correct on their systems
  • When i telephoned the company i intended to buy my insurance from , i explained to them that the car was showing the incorrect engine size on the online quote search.

The insurance company simply told me that the car had been without insurance for a while and they then updated their records to show the correct engine size.

The V5 however always did show the correct size so i know DVLA always held the correct info.

My cars are all legal, and all details are correct, but for two of them most insurance websites can't find any details on the reg no alone, and for one the model is never listed! :)
