Switching Nationwide to.........?

  • We've (wife and I) just switched our main account from Santander (muppets) to First Direct as they constantly come out top for customer service in Which (and are offering £100 too), fingers crossed they will live up to their reputation. And Our 2nd Current account from Nationwide to N&P as they offer free overseas transactions from 2011, which is more benefit to us than the free insurance etc that NW now offers. You only have to pay in £500 to keep it free so just going to setup a regular transfer.

I opened a Metro Bank account a couple of months ago and am very pleased with it. You get a very personal service when you ring - a bit like in the old days when you could ring your branch and talk to someone who could get your problem sorted.

I moved all my direct debit across from Smile myself - I waited until each one appeared in my old bank's online statement then rang the company to arrange for the next one to come from Metro Bank. That has worked very well indeed - just a small issue where Anglian Water did not recognise the sort code - though they are sorting that out now.

I live in the East Midlands and although I had to travel down to London to open the account I did leave with everything I needed - online banking set up and ready to go, debit card, overdraft and cheque book. I made a day of it and had a really good time. A couple of weeks ago I wanted to open a savings account just so I could move some funds across and back again when I needed to use them. Metro bank opened the new account over the phone and it was ready to use within 10 minutes or so.

    Highly recommended.

I moved to Metro Bank after Nationwide started all that silly stuff with increasing charges for overseas ATM withdrawals. I have to say that so far very impressed with the Metro Bank service.
