car insurance company reviews re claims

I've just been checking reviews of car insurance companies and some are mainly negative some are mainly positive but some have both extremes.

The company with the lowest quote I got was *all* negative, the next lowest was both extremes, as was one recommended by a mate who recently had a claim handled well, also high up in the Which review but the individual reviews were extremes.

A lot of the bad reviews came when a claim was made, others poor service/call centres re paperwork but it seems pot luck with no overall optimum company for price or service:-

I still have a few days to go so I may check my local repair garages for who they've had good dealings with (assuming they're not authorised repairers for any firm they may big up).
