Chance of being made redundant

We had a meeting at work today where the MD announced a sudden change of structure with new job roles and titles for most people. He also said that he has to lose two members of staff, meaning redundancy.
Half of the current staff are guaranteed their jobs for some reason, the rest of us have to apply for them next week with no guarantee that we'll succeed.
What has really upset me is that a girl who started last month is guaranteed her job, whereas me who has been with the company over 3 years has to reapply. I went for promotion earlier in the year and wasn't successful so I'm no exactly confident.
The time scales are pushing it, we have to apply for the new jobs by the end of this week and then interviews will take place next week. We will hear who has been appointed to all the roles on December 6th. Sadly our Xmas party is the weekend before, plus my birthday is on the 5th of next month than I have the following day off, so I will spend my birthday not knowing if my job is safe.
What the hell do I do? I've never had to reapply for my own job before.

I think you need to establish who are which pools for which jobs and why some jobs are exempt.
Can you apply for any job and more than one?
if not why not?0
