Exchanging Contracts

Please help me.

When exchanging contracts on selling a house, do you have to sign the original contract or can your solicitor fax a copy for you to sign.

    Thanks

I am hoping to exchange and complete on Wednesday, but won't be able to get to the solicitor's. They won't send the contract in the post.

  • Well that seems strange as so many people aren't using local firms anymore.

In that case, yes, I would suggest faxing a copy. I guess you need to have a discussion with your solicitor on Monday about your options. I hope you find a solution.

    Good luck!

I have just signed mine which was sent in the post but I see no reason why it can't be faxed and you send the contract with the hard copy of the signature on it.

every contract i have ever signed has been sent to me in the post - what is the matter with your solicitor - this is a nonsense - they are probably being too mean to send it first class or special delivery ?

I wanted to know if a signed copy would still be ok. I wanted to try and find out before I speak to the solicitor on Monday.
