Sky phone scam ?

I just had a call claiming to be from Sky technical support saying there were corrupt files and viruses on my broadband connection.
He then proceeded to try to get me to download Teamviewer, which I discovered is a remote control programme for computers, so that the "engineer" could show me the so called corrupt files.
I told him I didn't believe him and he eventually said "no problem" and hung up.
Is this a scam? Has anyone else had this?
I haven't contacted Sky because I didn't want to be stuck waiting on the phone all day,and you can't seem to to send tem a proper email.
