Just wondering how EMM works. I mean how does it know that it needs the 1st, 2nd and 5th letters of your password for the external bank account. Then how does it fill the fields in on the web form? Do the banks provide some sort of API or web service?. Just the basic principles and something to google would be useful. Thanks

I use it and it's pretty straightforward, you download a password safe onto your computer, then add all your accounts with passwords etc onto the site. You can only use it on computers where you have installed the safe.
Works for me, never had any problems.0 -
Hi thanks for the reply but I'm after the technical implementation details of how it works from a developer point of view, not from a users point of view.
Sorry, I should have been more clear0 -
All you need to do is read the page source.
For example, this is my HSBC source to find out which numbers I need, for my entering on password page:<p> <strong>The</strong><span class="hsbcTextHighlight"> <strong>FIRST</strong></span> <strong>and</strong><span class="hsbcTextHighlight"> <strong>FOURTH</strong></span> <strong>and</strong><span class="hsbcTextHighlight"> <strong>SIXTH</strong></span> <strong>digits of your Security Number</strong><b>
Although I suspect there is some sort of API.
Egg MM is actually software created by someone else. FirstDirect also use the same software. Can't remember the name of the company though. If it comes to me I'll reply again!0 -
I think this is the company that provides the product, used to be called accountunity.

Key bit of how this works (and therefore EMM) is that it creates a passwordsafe on your PC to hold the sign in details for any configured account, then uses the ActiveX app to automate the sign-in process0
