Missing chimney breast
Comments
-
I've e-mailed some builders for a quote, so hopefully they will get back to me soon. Regarding the party wall act, and approval from the council - how long would this take? Also, how will the chimney breast in the bathroom be supported (seeing as there is no support in the kitchen below) while any work is carried out in the loft?
As you can see, this is all new (and concerning) to me so I'm having to learn quickly!0 -
No idea about 'paper work ' timing .Also, how will the chimney breast in the bathroom be supported (seeing as there is no support in the kitchen below) while any work is carried out in the loft?
As I posted in #10 , the bottom of a chimney breast can/may be removed ( for years!!!) and the chimney does not fall. The chimney is 'stuck ' to the wall .
Ps before we get technical I have already mentioned corballing , just trying to keep it simple.
So the normal method , remove a few bricks from front of chiney breast in loft , slip in RSJ
Depending where the rsj rests , different areas have different views, Believe Pad stones are now the flavour .Then all the chimney beneath RSJ is removed . In Vic house , good chance it will be lime mortar , couple of taps with a club hammer and you only have to lift them off.
Tough part is moving them all down stairs ( window?? )
Wimp .... you are ?? getting in builders, as I have shown we just got on and did it.As you can see, this is all new (and concerning) to me so I'm having to learn quickly!0
