British gas smart meter install

Options
Hi there,

I have received a letter from British gas stating that they are going to change my gas and electricity meters to new 'smart meters'

I need to be at home for the visit, can anyone advise me on how long i takes so i can book the time off work?

Also has anyone had any issues with this?

thanks

S

I had mine done last month. The actual job takes about 40 mins but the problem my engineers had was getting the first signal. In my case it took 2 mins but others on the day had taken up to a couple of hours.

Remember these are only trial meters, they won't remain 'smart' if you change supplier.

No matter how quickly they do it, BG will probably only tell you the day they are coming. (8am - 8pm)

If you ask them, they should give you a morning, afternoon, or evening appointment.

If you really push them, they may give you a two hour window for arrival time ... but it's not easy.

Best to choose an appointment after work or perhaps a Saturday morning?

    Thanks MillicentBystander.

I'm not sure if this counts as official or not - it's independent market research. However, I'll check with the forum moderators.

    Thanks again
