Electricity usage monitor

Options
Having seen the adverts for an electricity usage monitor from EDF, I contacted my electricity supplier - British Gas - and said I was thinking of moving to EDF in order to get their free monitor. British Gas then sent me, free of charge, their own monitor. It's proved very useful already in highlighting those appliances which use the most energy and the ready reminder of having it constantly displaying our usage has made us much more careful about what we use and about turning things off and being all together more economical with our electricity usage..... better for our bank balance and for the environment.

  • Energy monitors are OK for some, I suppose. They only give you a snap-shot in time which is not a true reflection on reality.

They can give you good indicators of the indivdual cost of each appliances, but be aware that many appliance are not contantly consuming power, so they can be misleading.
  • mine arrived this morning also free from BG, kept myself amused for an hour or so turning things on and off "just to see". tumble dryer sent it a bit wild,. my son is a nightmare for boiling kettle to make drink, forgetting about it so boiling it again, going to show him the implications of this tonight. sure he is going to be really interested..not!
