Media player does not recognise dvds.

in Techie Stuff
Wifes dell 1501 was ok but for some reason will not recognise legal dvds. Up dated video drivers as per message box from MSoft but no good. any idea where else to look?
I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.

You need an installed MPEG-2 codec in order to watch DVD's. Try VLC to play the DVD.0 -
As tronator says, get VLC player it's free to download.0

Try the Combined Community Codec Pack from http://www.cccp-project.net/
It lets you play back most video types, including DVDs
