Zone Alarm Update

I just had a rather odd thing happen

A small window appeared top left of the screen, with a ZA logo in the corner, and the field had Update with a green tick against it

I closed it, and a dialogue box across the middle of the screen said the PC needed to be restarted to apply the updates. Do this now or later?

I've left it, but the odd thing is that this is unlike ZA update in the past, where if automatic update was enabled, you still got a dialogue box saying it was available, and did you want to download it now? Clicking yes took you to a download page, and it could then be either run or saved to do later.

It's alarming that this morning's event gives no discretion to the user at all.

I looked on a couple of popular download sites, and no new version is listed. Neither does the ZA site mention it.

So I looked in the ZA forum, and found this thread, with 17 posts in it at the time I'm posting this

Some discuss a few files that have been changed, but the consensus is that it is odd to get an update that has the same version number as before.

None mention the way it arrived, so I wanted to register on the forum and post myself, but I'm told about 6 choices of username are invalid (don't know if this is a glitch, or I'm choosing ones that already exist)

For now, the advice I'm most tempted by is the guru member that says he doesn't know why this is happening, and do a clean uninstall and reinstall

Same thing happened with me! I thought it was strange too. Haven't re-started yet so presumably the updates haven't been applied...not sure what to do at all.....? :mad:

Will be changing my settings to Manual Update in future!!!!

I think I will download a clean version, then go offline later and try uninstall and reinstall, which I hope will avoid these being applied

And then it might happen again next time online, but perhaps they'll have more info in the forum by then. Pity it's the weekend though.

I've saved those instructions about what to do in case of problems with uninstalling, but I think that's unlikely.

By the way, I switched to manual update, and pressed the button to do it - quick window about contacting, which then just disappeared

Happened to me last night in the middle of playing Oblivion which completely crashed the game. Seems to crash whenever Zonealarm check for updates. Think I'll set it to manual as well.

i got that but that as well. all it was was an automatic update.
