Most efficient temperature for thermostat?

no.
whatever is comfortable, or if you want to save money, the lower the better!!

The temperature where pipes will burst, unless you drain the pipes.
Most central heating thermostats go down to 10 degrees, so that is as low as you can set it.
Modern boilers have frost protection, so they will switch on before it gets too low. In this scenario, TRVs set to zero means no hot water will get to those rooms. So you should NEVER turn them down to zero. "*" means frost protection on a TRV: use it.0 -
Whoever told your wife that was not an RGI I suspect. Boiler on = burning gas = costing more money.
Have you thought about keeping your oven on a low temp between meals because it's 'more efficient'? I think not.
Please please mods, can we have a sticky on this one?No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
For what its worth the fallback temperature on my programmable thermostat is 15 c, the house rarely drops to that level. That gum you like is coming back in style.0

My wife's heard it's best not to let the house dip below a certain temperature, even if you're out.
Depends how you define 'best'!
It is certainly cheaper to not have the heating on when you are away from the house.
However the colder the house the longer it takes to get back to a comfortable temperature.
As always it is a compromise between cost and convenience.0 -
Ooh, hit a moneysaving nerve here! Thanks for all replies, will let her see this tread!0
